A dedicated Ethernet-based desktop energy monitoring and analytics application engineered for a defense contract, interfacing directly with industrial energy meters to track power quality, electrical consumption, and system health across the facility without requiring physical site inspections.

The Challenge

Defense installations, strategic command centers, and mission-critical field facilities depend on continuous, high-reliability electrical power. Critical electrical parameters—such as phase-to-phase voltage fluctuations, harmonic distortions, frequency deviations, and reactive power surges—often signal upstream transformer stress or pending generator failure well before a total blackout occurs. Relying on technicians to manually inspect panel meters or log register values with pen and paper is labor-intensive, exposes personnel to high-voltage panels, and leaves command engineers blind to transient electrical anomalies between shift walk-throughs.

What We Built

We engineered a specialized desktop energy management and monitoring application deployed over a secure local area Ethernet network. The software continuously interrogates multi-function industrial energy meters and power quality analyzers via Modbus TCP/IP, aggregating line currents, phase voltages, active/reactive power, power factor, and total harmonic distortion (THD). Operating entirely within a hardened, air-gapped defense infrastructure, the platform visualizes real-time power distribution, computes cumulative load profiles, and automatically archives continuous telemetry into a tamper-resistant database—delivering comprehensive facility energy oversight directly to operational consoles.

Key Capabilities

  • Deterministic Modbus TCP/IP Polling: High-reliability continuous polling of multi-function digital energy meters, sub-meters, and power distribution units (PDUs) across a dedicated local Ethernet backbone.
  • Power Quality & Harmonic Diagnostics: Edge monitoring of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD-V, THD-I) and phase imbalances to detect non-linear loads and prevent transformer overheating.
  • Tactical Network Console UI: High-contrast dashboard layout displaying single-line diagrams (SLD), live load-demand curves, and configurable multi-tier threshold warning indicators.
  • Zero-Touch Compliance & Consumption Archival: Automated daily, weekly, and monthly demand aggregation with instant generation of peak-demand reports, energy audit spreadsheets, and PDF compliance certificates ready for defense procurement review.

Outcome

Eliminated manual panel inspections and physical data harvesting across secure military assets. Facility engineers gain live, centralized visibility into complete power distribution health over standard Ethernet, identifying load imbalances instantly and maintaining unbroken, auditable energy performance records for defense contract oversight.
