A high-throughput desktop control and force-displacement acquisition suite that executes automated load routines, validates mechanical compliance, and flags out-of-spec cover assemblies instantly.
The Challenge
Cover assemblies (such as clutch covers, pressure plates, and protective enclosures) rely on precise spring rates, clamp loads, and deflection thresholds to function safely. Evaluating these components manually or with disconnected press gauges creates testing bottlenecks and leaves room for missed defects. Without synchronized force-versus-stroke data acquisition, subtle manufacturing flaws—like weak diaphragm springs, improper finger heights, or uneven seating—slip through end-of-line quality checks undetected.
What We Built
We engineered a dedicated desktop control and quality-inspection application for servo-electric and hydraulic cover assembly test presses. The software automates the complete compression cycle, synchronously reading multi-axis load cells and linear displacement transducers as the tooling engages the part. The system evaluates the force-deflection curve in real time, validating release load, clamp load, and lift-off points against tight tolerance envelopes and flagging defective assemblies before they move downstream.
Key Capabilities
- Configurable Pressing Profiles: Program multi-step stroke limits, target compression forces, approach speeds, and dwell durations per part number.
- Synchronized Force-Stroke Acquisition: High-speed, deterministic sampling capturing instantaneous load aligned precisely to linear displacement (LVDT/encoder).
- Live Envelope & Window Evaluation: Real-time plotting of force-displacement curves against programmable tolerance windows and boundary envelopes.
- Instant Out-of-Spec Interlocks: Immediate pass/fail classification with automated digital I/O triggers to reject parts or halt the machine cycle.
- Automated Traceability & Tagging: Every assembly run is automatically archived with its peak loads, curve signatures, timestamp, and barcode/QR serial identifier.
Outcome
Eliminated manual inspection bottlenecks and prevented substandard assemblies from reaching the customer. Every cover assembly undergoes a deterministic, repeatable load sequence, yielding full force-deflection traceability and audit-ready inspection reports for 100% of production.
